Impressions from Ghandruk

Gallery Mcube is pleased to host Impressions from Ghandruk, a collective exhibition by the second-year students of the Department of Art and Design at Kathmandu University School of Arts. The exhibition brings together works developed through direct engagement with the landscape, community, and everyday rhythms of Ghandruk. Created during a field-based study and painting excursion, the project was carried out under the guidance of mentors Nabendra Limbu and Gopal Ale Magar, reflecting a structured yet experiential approach to learning in which observation, movement, and lived experience shape artistic understanding and visual expression. Through watercolor and on-site practice, the participating students respond to the environment with closeness and sensitivity, capturing both the physical beauty and cultural atmosphere of the village. The exhibition highlights the evolving visual language of 35 emerging young artists as they navigate the relationship between place, memory, and artistic interpretation. Beyond documentation, these works reveal moments of encounter with nature, architecture, people, and the changing light of the Himalayan landscape. Each piece becomes a reflection of personal experience while collectively forming a dialogue on learning through travel, immersion, and shared creative practice. Impressions from Ghandruk stands as a testament to the importance of experiential learning in art education, encouraging young practitioners to engage deeply with their surroundings and translate those encounters into meaningful visual narratives. The exhibition also reflects the spirit of collaboration and exploration fostered within the academic environment of Kathmandu University, where artistic practice extends beyond the classroom into lived and shared experiences.
